What is a Health Coach?

If you've ever been on a sports team then you already know what a coach is. It is someone that can watch you and learn about you and help you improve. 

My job as your health coach is to understand what YOUR vision is for your health and then hold you as capable of achieving that. I will teach you tips and tools to help you achieve what it is you're looking for. 

I am your own personal tough loving cheerleader that knows how to get the best out of you. And sees where you are struggling, even if you don't.  

How does your program work?

During our sessions together I will learn what your unique vision is for your health, and what your road blocks are or have been. Then I tailor a program just for you so that each session I give you a new tool to help overcome that obstacle. 

I use new information, mantras, mediation and breathing exercises to help you release negative thoughts and energy. The mind is really quite a powerful thing and even though you may think its not in your head- it probably is!

Do I have to keep a food diary?

Maybe- It depends on what your goals are and if my suggestions are working for you. A food diary is a last result. If intuition alone is not producing the desired results, then we need to take a closer look at  where you need more support.  The main focus of my teachings is to get you to tune into your intuition and to be really honest with yourself (and me) about how different foods make you feel. But it is not required to count calories or calculate how much energy you are using or need. There is no math involved- just honesty!

Will there be homework?

Yes! Since I will only meet with you once per week, that means there are 6 days between our talks. That is when you will put into action the steps that we talk about during our sessions. 

The action steps will be small and easily attainable; because smaller, more frequent steps that "stack" on top of each other is how we make LASTING habit change. 

And if any step is too big, we come back together and break it down again so that we get the desired result. 

The goal of my program is to EASILY create the habit change, and that means BABY STEPS.  

Can I have my CAKE and EAT it too?

YES! This is another great piece of my program- If you want chocolate cake- then HAVE chocolate cake. 

I teach my clients how to eat intuitively.  What this means is that you get to eat what you want, but do it in a mindful way. When most people diet, they work with a deprivation modality. They focus on the things they can't have. What I will teach you in my program is that when you are eating things that are maybe not the "best" for you, then to take small bites and savor the moment. Then, check in with yourself and see how did that food make your body FEEL?  Which is opposite of what most people do. Most people will eat it as fast as they can, put the empty container in the bottom of the trash can and completely deny all knowledge of what just happened.  This reinforces only the momentary soothing effect and not the lasting energy we are looking for. 

What does a coaching session consist of?

Each session is approximately 1 hour in length. We start with whats going well and celebrations. Then, what challenges you have been experiencing and how to work through them. We will discuss new information that will shift your mindset about your challenge. Then we practice an exercise together or a new tool, that relates to the challenge. Followed by an action step, something that you are going to focus on over the next 7 days before our next session and we close out with something you learned or your biggest take away from the session. 

The information I give you is always relevant to your current situation. Most people are on information overload- you don't need more information, you need relevant information. I'll explain small steps in great detail and always check for understanding before we finish. 

How do you calculate your fees?

Since I tailor all of my programs to fit the individual, fees will vary depending on your program duration and composition. 

If you are interested in culinary instruction, the fees will include cost of ingredients. The recipes will be determined ahead of time as well as number of servings.  Most recipes make 4 portions.

All fees will be discussed up front and clearly explained. I will work with your goals to create a program that will have you feeling good about the investment you are making in yourself.

What certifications do you hold?

I am a Certified Health Coach and Life Coach from Health Coach Institute. This Health Coach program is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF), the only globally recognized, independent credentialing program for coach practitioners, via their CCE program (Continuing Coach Education).

I also hold a California, Career and Technical Education Credential in Culinary and Hospitality. This means that I deliver information in a way that is easily digestible. I will keep information relevant to your goals and immediately actionable. 

I am also a Functional Nutrition Guide. Which means I understand the key concepts of nutrition and how what we eat interacts with our bodies systems. Since every body is unique, so will the way your body uses different foods. My goal is to teach you how to determine what is best for YOU!
